Background
Outbreaks of foodborne diseases associated with pathogenic Escherichia Coli (E. coli) have been widely spread and grown as public health problems. Most of what we know about pathogenic E. coli comes from the outbreak studies of E. coli O157:H7 infection. The E. coli O157:H7 is a specific serotype of E. coli, which can cause watery diarrhea, hemorrhagic colitis, hemolytic-uremia syndrome (HUS) and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), especially in young children and the elderly.
