Background
Human folate receptor 4 (FOLR4), or folate receptor delta (FRδ), is also known as Sperm-egg fusion protein Juno or IZUMO1R. It is a receptor for IZUMO1 present at the cell surface of oocytes (oolemma), which is essential for species-specific gamete recognition and fertilization.
Juno is a member of the folate receptor family and is GPI-anchored to the plasmalemma of the mammalian egg cell that recognizes its sperm-riding counterpart, IZUMO1, and facilitates fertilization.
