DNA aptamer against Lipocalin-2
Background
Lipocalin-2 (LCN2) is a secreted carrier protein that binds to catecholate siderophores, which are iron-containing molecules that bacteria need to grow. By binding to these siderophores, LCN2 limits the amount of iron available to bacteria, which prevents their growth. LCN2 plays a role in many processes, including inflammation, metabolism, and innate immunity. LCN2 is a biomarker of inflammation, and its levels increase in response to inflammatory stress. LCN2 can promote inflammation by recruiting inflammatory cells and inducing proinflammatory cytokines.
